Description:
DFS preschool program offers educational, nutritional, and mental health and social services to families each year. The primary goal is to prepare children for lifelong success by providing the social-emotional support they need to help them develop a positive feeling about learning and attending school.
The Center Director is responsible for the administration and leadership of the program by developing and maintaining all necessary systems in such areas as: program assessment, development and evaluation; shared governance; staff policies and procedures; staff supervision, evaluation, and development; recruitment, selection, enrollment and attendance; budgeting and fiscal reporting; family & community partnerships; physical center maintenance; Resource Management; Client & Customer Collaboration; Business Development; licensing and all DFS Performance Standards.
Responsibilities:
Education and Early Childhood Services:
- Articulate and model the DFS educational philosophy and Performance Standards for all children, parents and staff.
- Ensure program quality through observations in classrooms, meetings, supervision, and kitchen, as well as maintaining programmatic connections with current ideas, beliefs and research in the Early Childhood field.
- Develop and maintain plans to provide for special education, health services, mental health, parent involvement and all other Performance Standards.
- Support Coordinators & Teachers through supervision and staff development to position as leader of program.
- Develop and maintain a communication system that develops curriculum, interdisciplinary teams, active parent involvement and ongoing observing, planning and assessment.
- Develop and maintain collaborations with staff, faculty and programs of DFS, including School associates and other Children’s Programs.
- Oversee comprehensive set of services to ensure Family Service team supports families to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs and Parent, Family and Community Framework is implemented.
Staff Development and Evaluation
- Develop and maintain an inclusive system for supportive supervision for all staff, involving ongoing staff evaluation using a strength based model.
- Create opportunities for excellent ongoing staff development that is connected to the needs and desires of the program.
- Develop and maintain excellent communication systems for staff, parents and board.
- Ensure support from all available resources at DFS and other early childhood education providers.
Program Assessment
- Complete program self-assessments annually with staff, parents and board participation and approval.
- Complete program Community Needs Assessment with staff, parents, board participation and approval.
- Ensures program assesses and utilizes data from multiple outcomes measures to reflect, understand and plan for short and long term program goals.
- Provide regular opportunities for parents and staff to provide feedback on program goals and achievements.
Budget and Operations
- Monitor Center budget on a monthly basis, ensure proper tracking systems and controls for all transactions.
- Work to ensure adherence to all DFS policies and procedures for fiscal, personnel, reporting, budget and audits.
- Ensure center is safe and adheres to all regulations for childcare and licensing, systems are in place for proper maintenance of facilities, and plans for fire emergencies, emergency evacuations, safety of staff and families and cooperation with staff.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or related area.
- 4 years of early childhood teaching experience.
- Certification in Early Childhood or related area.
- Proven leadership experience, including the ability to create, support and work with teams, both internally and with outside partners, in a collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Flexibility in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment of quickly changing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Experience working with diverse and/or high-need student populations at the classroom, school or district level.
- Working knowledge and experience navigating City and government agencies.
