The importance of celebration of events cannot be undermined to any degree in our lives. Celebration brings people closer to each other, break the much required monotonicity of lives and hence deliver us pure joy!
The community at Discover First Step realizes the tremendous value that these celebrations carry with themselves and hence, ensures to provide the STEPPERS a unique experience of culture and tradition, to make them understand the integral values of life majorly empathy, kindness, and social understanding.
We carry out the celebrations with great zeal and enthusiasm and are delighted to present you with all the activities that withhold the events.

Our multicultural curriculum is comprised of hands-on learning experiences for all the cultures our children explore. Each month, we will focus on a different culture and explore its themes in the areas of art, music, theater, indoor and outdoor installations, hands-on artifacts, and food. These Curriculum highlights are shared with parents each month.

Exposure to a multicultural curriculum facilitates positive core values for children throughout their developmental stages. A child learns that individuality is valuable and self-actualizing. Through these festivals, children discover that there are many ways to express themselves, approach daily tasks, and enjoy success. Not everyone reaches the summit by the same path. Understanding and experiencing that we are part of a bigger world and a larger community is an essential part of what happens in the classroom.

The understanding of cultural diversity promotes tolerance and the recognition of humanity. It breeds acceptance of a child’s essential individuality. This acceptance leads to higher levels of self-confidence and self-esteem. Awareness of diversity creates a more adaptive, resourceful, and independent child with a higher capacity for teamwork and empathy.

Lohri

The stories of farmers who provide us with the liberty of not having to work hard for keeping ourselves healthy are shared with the STEPPERS. This provokes in them a sense of understanding of how each role is important for the community to survive. Also, a fire bourn is felicitated to enjoy the mood of the festival.

Republic Day

Our goal is to ignite a fire of patriotism in the STEPPERS and teach them all the gala of how our nation fought for independence. Tiny tots are dressed as freedom fighters and soldiers and the whole place is decked up keeping in mind the theme of the celebration. Flag hoisting is done with grandeur followed by the national anthem.

Annual Day

This event falls around the end of the year, the idea is to celebrate the closing year by awarding the STEPPERS for their achievements whereas the teacher and parents are also recognized by the FIRST STEP community for their hearty encouragement to yield healthy STEPPERS.

Grand Parents Day

This day holds a great deal of importance as the grandparents are heartily invited to celebrate. Our agenda is to make STEPPERS aware of the importance the elders carry in their lives, their life stories are presented to the STEPPERS in an amusing way so that they can gain much needed wisdom and hence develop a better understanding of the world.

Holi

Holi is a joyous festival full of colors and life. The festival inculcates the values of peace and harmony among the STEPPERS which are the vital ingredients of being part of the FIRST STEP community.

Birthday Celebration

Each stepper is unique and thus deserves a day of its own, with that motto in mind every stepper is celebrated on its birthday. The celebration is to activate the self-esteem and to provide harmonious relationships among the children alike.

Mother’s Day

‘There is no life possible without mothers’. Mothers are selfless creatures that are a true example of devotion, love, care and understanding. To celebrate life, we need to celebrate mothers. The STEPPERS are encouraged to thank their moms for their wonderful and constant support and care throughout and a special program is devoted to the mothers by the tiny tots themselves!

Raksha Bandhan

To mark the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a Rakhi making competition is held.
Students put in their best efforts to prepare colourful and esthetically designed rakhis in this competition. The program concludes with students tying rakhis to each other. The basic theme behind organizing this event is to enchance creativity of students. Children are familiarized with the customs and rituals followed on Raksha Bandhan.
Students are told about the sacred bond between a brother and sister and as to how rakhi symbolizes the sister’s love and prayers for the brother’s well-being and his life long vow to protect her.

Independence Day

The steppers are encouraged to participate in a theme based activity. They are required to draw flags and to present themselves as the honourable freedom fighters of the Independence era. A small cleanliness drive is carried out shortly after. The ceremony is completed with Flag-Hoisting and at the very end, delicious Flag based dessert is enjoyed by the tiny tots!

Friendship Day

This occasion calls for celebrating the presence of our very dear comrades in our lives. Their presence makes our lives colorful. Being able to maintain healthy friendships early on in one’s life is a great skill to master interpersonal human relationships that increase the overall happiness of an individual. The STEPPERS are encouraged to recite poems, share happy- sad experiences which they encountered with their friends. The idea is to make them realize the value of hearty approbation in their lives. As it is rightly said, ‘Appreciation and not criticism makes the human achieve its truest potential’. The program also fosters self-confidence and makes the STEPPERS realize the feeling of companionship and love and the importance they carry in an individual’s life.

Janmashtmi

Fancy dress program is carried out which aims at involving the parents and STEPPERS alike followed by a drama performed by the STEPPERS which narrates the stories of Shree Krishna.

Teacher’s Day

We aim to celebrate the role teachers’ play in providing quality education at all levels. This enables the STEPPERS to learn to take part in and contribute to their local community and global society. The STEPPERS are encouraged to plan a program on their own and present it to their ever-supporting teachers which in turn help boosts their creativity and increases their self-confidence.

Gandhi Jayanti

To honor the efforts of the ‘Father of Nation’ in achieving independence, STEPPERS celebrate this event by dressing up same as the Gandhi followed by students and teachers taking a pledge to complete the ceremony.

Dussehra

To let go of the hate and crude feelings that pull us back, we set up a program to burn the Ravana and the importance of having a good heart is shared with the students by a enacting play of Ram and Sita which is performed by the STEPPERS themselves.

Diwali

The place is decked up with diyas and lights. The STEPPERS are encouraged to attend the festival in traditional clothes.

Children’s Day

We tend to make the day special for the STEPPERS by enacting a play for them. Their very dear teachers organize a hearty skit for their little angels and the ceremony is completed by giving the STEPPERS gifts.

Guru Nanak Jayanti

‘Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life’. The morning assembly to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti on 30th November starts with the shabad kirtan ‘Ek Onkaar Satnaam’. The students showcase the life history of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism, who showed us the path of peace, harmony and righteousness.. The message that the teachings of Guru Nanak Devji are of great significance to mankind and can help in transforming our society are beautifully brought forth. The assembly concludes with a mesmerizing folk dance performance hailing the teachings of Guru Nanak.

Christmas Carnival

A fair is organized keeping in mind the theme of the festival. STEPPERS are encouraged to dress as the Santa, the elf and the deer too! Cotton Candies, chocolates are distributed.

Sports Day

“Talent wins games, but team-work and intelligence wins championships“. Sports day is a platform to show case the talent and efforts put in by the little children. Sports at pre-primary level are not about competition but rather about having fun , being physically active , learning the basics of sports and building co-ordination and motor-skills and so to give the little STEPPERS an opportunity to display their self –confidence.
Races such as simple race, zig zag race, obstacle race , collecting / touching the cones ,lemon and spoon race etc. are organized. The young achievers are awarded with the medals Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Halloween

The place is decked up keeping in mind the theme of the celebration. STEPPERS are required to dress up in their costumes and are awarded candies for their efforts. A lot of activities withhold the day with one of them being- Jack-O-Lantern carving, it is a fun and traditional party activity. The children help plan the face by drawing and designing prototypes, while the teacher can do the actual carving. Everyone can participate in the fun of removing the ooey- gooey pulp out of the pumpkin and this proves to be a great sensory activity.
